What is personalized print on demand?

Personalized print on demand lets your own customers add a name, photo or short message to a product on your store page, then JetPrint manufactures and ships the finished item once they check out. It runs on the same free JetPrint account as regular print on demand, except the buyer designs the piece instead of you.

Buyers type or upload directly into a live preview on the product page, an initial for a mug, a wedding date for a cutting board, or their own photo for a hoodie, so what you sell pairs naturally with the wider personalized gifts collection instead of a one-size-fits-all catalog.

JetPrint's own personalization tool covers Shopify and Etsy natively, and stores already running a dedicated personalizer such as Customily or Teeinblue can keep using it side by side with JetPrint for production. Curious how sellers rate the connection? See JetPrint's reviews on the Shopify App Store.

Which personalization styles do buyers love most?

A person holding a white mug personalized with a name

Name

A coffee mug, a t-shirt or a phone case all display a name well: starting the day with a mug that has your name on it, or wearing a shirt that says who you are, turns an everyday item into something personal. Initials work just as well if a full name feels like too much. Browse the mug catalog for blanks that take a name cleanly.

A wooden cutting board personalized with a motto

Motto

A favorite motto carries motivation, humor or a point of view wherever it goes: a quote that keeps someone going, a joke that gets a laugh, or a mantra worth reading every morning. Changing the font or its color makes the same words feel more personal, and wood pieces like our wood ornaments take an engraved motto especially well.

A couple wearing hoodies personalized with embroidered photos

Personal image

A favorite photo turns a product into a keepsake: a pet on a pillow, wedding photos on canvas, or original artwork on a tote bag. For a photo that should outlast the wash instead of fading in it, stitch it with custom embroidery rather than printing it.

The short version: choose personalized print on demand when you want shoppers making the creative choices, and regular print on demand when you're designing every listing yourself. Plenty of stores run both side by side from the same JetPrint account, the same integrations, and the same factory that has produced print on demand orders since 2017.

How do you enable personalization on your store?

1

Design your product

Choose a product from the Custom Gifts section; every item there syncs automatically to Shopify. If the product needs artwork first, use the mockup generator to finish the design before you continue.

2

Add personalized layers

Pre-designed elements can't be customized by a shopper. Open the mockup generator's menu bar and use the personalize function to mark specific layers as customizable, the layers that let a customer type a name or upload a photo before they buy.

3

Sync to your store

Once every product detail is filled in, publish it straight to your connected store the same way described in our Shopify integration guide.

4

Turn on the customizer

In your Shopify theme editor, find JetPrint Customizer and enable it, then refresh the product page: the toggle that puts a live personalization box in front of your shopper.

Selling personalized products on Etsy instead?

The flow is almost identical: design the product, fill in its listing details, then check Add Personalized Options during the final sync step. See the Etsy integration guide for the full walkthrough, or the integrations page for Shopify, WooCommerce and Wix.

Personalized print on demand FAQ

Is personalized print on demand free to use?

Yes. Turning on personalization costs nothing extra: there is no setup fee, no subscription and no minimum order. You pay the standard product price and shipping only once a customer completes an order.

What happens after a customer finishes personalizing a product?

Once your customer finishes designing, the order syncs to your JetPrint dashboard for production. You pay for that order the same way you would any other, and JetPrint handles manufacturing and dropshipping worldwide from there.

Do I need to design every product myself?

No, not with personalization turned on. If a product page shows a Sync to My Shop button, it is ready to sell with no design work from you. If it shows a Design button instead, the base artwork needs to be finished before customers can personalize it.

What can I let customers personalize?

Text and photos are the two building blocks: let shoppers type a name, initials or a short message, upload their own picture, or both together on products like mugs, hoodies and canvas prints.

Which platforms support the personalization tool?

Shopify and Etsy connect to JetPrint's personalization tool natively. Stores already running a dedicated personalizer such as Customily or Teeinblue can keep using it alongside JetPrint for production and shipping.

How is a personalized order produced differently from a standard one?

It is not. Once a customer's design syncs over, JetPrint produces and ships it the same way it does every other order: from our own factory, with the same turnaround and branding options as any print on demand order.
